Apollo Remastered – Andy Saunders

Andy Saunders - Apollo Remastered

Published today, we are delighted to offer Space Rocks Mission Update subscribers the chance to win a copy of this incredible new book that details extraordinary new details of humankind’s first journeys into space and to the moon.

Apollo Remastered is a project recently completed by imaging specialist Andy Saunders which digitally remasters and restores the original flight film from humankind’s first missions to the Moon. Preceding the imminent launch of Artemis 1 – beginning the mission to return to the moon –  the book is a painstaking project that Andy worked on across several years. In collaboration with NASA, he assessed a treasure trove of 35,000 Apollo mission photos to curate and digitally remaster images that have never been seen before. The results are absolutely astounding.

Featuring over 400 full-page photographs from the Apollo mission – plus even some from the preceding Mercury and Gemini missions – it’s both a labour of love and an important historic document. Apollo 16 astronaut Charlie Duke has described Andy’s remastered images as “the next best thing to being there… They are an exact representation of what I remember from my journey to the Moon on Apollo 16.”

BBC Science correspondent and friend of Space Rocks Jonathan Amos recently interviewed Andy about his incredible work
